Let the Sucking-Up Begin!
The jostling for jobs in the next Trump administration is underway...
Tomorrow, I will be back with a deep-dive analysis of the data that’s coming in around Donald Trump’s stunning election victory.
But this evening, on a lighter note, I’m taking you inside the DC parlor games that are already up and running around who is lobbying for which job in a new Trump Administration.
For now, let’s focus on who wants Secretary of State. Four men believe they’ve already been offered the job because Trump being Trump likes to keep people on their toes, as if he’s filming an episode of The Apprentice.
A fifth wants it. And a sixth, arguably already has the position of “Shadow Secretary…”
They are:
Sen. Bill Hagerty of Tennessee.
Robert Lighthizer, the former US Trade Representative
Robert O’Brien, the former National Security Adviser
Ric Grenell - the former US ambassador to Germany and acting Director of National Intelligence - oh, and Jared Kushner’s business partner
And then the person I’ve already talked about ad nauseam: Jared Kushner…

Bob Lighthizer was probably Trump's best appointment. He did a superb job as Trade Rep and would certainly align US foreign policy goals with a trade policy much more geared toward national security. He doesn't strike me as a mindless neocon and he's been an honorable public servant for decades. He'd be a great choice.
