I think you might read Fiona Hill's testimony to Congress in OCTOBER 2019 where she talks about Russia/Putin pushing Trump (including through publicly available articles in Russian media according to Hill) to think about the Monroe Doctrine meaning that if US went into Venezuela Russia would leave the USA;s "backyard" and then the US would leave Russia's backyard meaning Ukraine. Putin's idea is that they carve out difference spheres of influence so I'd say that not only is Russia not feeling pressured but rather Putin pushed (demanded?) that Trump invade Caracas so they can implement Putin's plan for his "New World Order". RememberTrump calls this invasion "The Donroe Doctrine" - hmmm where did that come from?

And it’s not just her testimony. There’s video of Russian media discussing it online.

I figured one country deciding to change the regime of another country because they feel their own people are 'at risk' because of that country's actions only legitimises Russia's actions in Ukraine? Likewise for China and Taiwan. I hoped in the West we'd learned our lesson from regime change in Iraq and Libya.

Or like the US talks about annexing Greenland or Canada

The "US" doesn't talk about that. One weirdo who happens to be President talks about that

It's not just the Russian asset in the Whitehouse, there are plenty of people around him that talk about it

This has never been a US talking point for either party. He said it in a press conference and he has several sycophants who will double down on anything he says when asked by the press. This is different from most of the rest of their agenda, which actually represents the nuttier faction of conservatism driving his policy decisions

The Venezuela event should be welcomed by Russia and China.

It justifies Russia s invasion of Ukraine and China’s future invasion of Taiwan.

So much so that one could see it as another bow to Putin by Trump, another push by Trump to yield more to Putin on UKRAINE.

Trump badmouthing Putin yesterday is only empty words.

I'd bet my house the FSB helped plan Trump's Venezuela operation. Putin WILL get a cut of whatever oil Trump steals. And Trump has never done anything to actually slam Putin. He's given the man literally everything he wants during this 2nd term because he's a traitor who make Arnold Benedict look like George Washington in comparison.

The longer Ukraine can hold out, the better chance the EU countries will get their shit together and start making up for the loss of US support.

I agree with Friedman. It also provides a justification for Putin’s actions.
