Where do things stand following Monday’s phone call between Presidents Trump and Putin in which Putin told Trump a ceasefire had to be negotiated directly between Russia and Ukraine, and Trump appeared to agree?
Yes, Trump issued the caveat that the US would only normalize relations with Russia AFTER peace is established.
But, by now Putin seems to have made it clear that Russia can withstand Western sanctions just fine, if it has to….
So, has Putin already effectively won?
And if so, what does that mean geopolitically?

He won several quarters ago. Russia has the resources and reserves to sweep through Ukraine. What it is doing presently is grinding down Ukraine’s ability to wage war. Ukraine going forward will be smaller with its infrastructure a mess as and the flower of its youth decimated.
Trump sees problems with the UK, EU and Ukraine. He was smart to pass this European problem to the Vatican.
