Cornyn says DOJ hasn’t met his demands on Blanche nomination

Sen. John Cornyn said today that the Justice Department has not satisfied his concerns over a settlement shielding President Trump and others from IRS tax audits, telling reporters he hasn’t seen any written material responsive to his requests — this despite a DOJ official telling NBC News that the department sent Cornyn’s staff a written proposal yesterday and looks forward to further discussion .

The stakes: Cornyn says Todd Blanche has until 4 p.m. today to address his concerns, which is when Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley has asked senators to declare whether they’ll support Blanche’s nomination ahead of tomorrow’s committee vote . Cornyn wants the proposed $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization fund” rescinded and the scope of the tax audit immunity for the president and his family restricted.
