A Year Ago Today
I wrote about a death in the fallout around the late Jeffrey Epstein. How it posed yet more questions about Epstein's life and death. A year later, troublingly, we are none the wiser
I’ve been thinking about the Epstein-related news. There’s news of an impending appeal by Ghislaine Maxwell, now she’s finally gotten $10 million back from her ex-husband. There’s a push by lawmakers to get Epstein’s grand jury records unsealed. We are also expecting names of alleged Epstein co-conspirators to become unsealed at any moment. Reportedly, one name is high-profile. Another is now deceased. A source who has seen the filings, says the deceased person is Jean-Luc Brunel, whom I wrote about below, upon his suicide in French prison.
When I re-read what I wrote this time last year about Brunel’s death, it’s troubling to see not just the lack of progress in getting answers around Epstein’s money and the men in his orbit, but to note that the US Virgin Islands AG, Denise George who was the one person in law enforcement on the Epstein money trail, has since been fired.
What’s good is that the US VI is still on the case. Hence last week’s report about the allegations by the US VI against JP Morgan claiming the bank aided Epstein’s sex trafficking for commercial gain. The bank denies this. But what about the executors of the Epstein estate, the attorney Darren Indyke and the accountant Richard Kahn? Indyke worked with Epstein for decades. If anyone knows where Epstein’s money came from, and where it went, and who else was involved, it’s him. But Indyke and Kahn settled with the US VI in November, albeit for over a hundred million dollars. It’s frustrating. I’ve said before, Epstein was a brilliant con-artist and manipulator, as well as a pedophile and sex-trafficker. The money and the sex were co-dependent. But people still have very little insight into the con-artistry and manipulations that bought him the power. Which is why unlike Jeffrey Epstein himself, the story about him refuses to die.
