In 2003, investigative journalist and best-selling author Vicki Ward submitted her profile on pedophile Jeffrey Epstein to her editors at Vanity Fair. For the first time, the Farmer sisters went on the record and detailed their abuse at the hands of Epstein and his former girlfriend and sex trafficking partner, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Under pressure from Epstein, the magazine’s editor, Graydon Carter, removed any mention of the sisters from the article, which was published as a milquetoast profile. Meanwhile, Ward, who was pregnant with twins at the time, was consistently threatened by Epstein to stop pursuing the story of his relationships with underage girls.
Since then, Ward has stayed on the Epstein story. She was present during Maxwell’s trial and released an investigative docuseries audiobook, Chasing Ghislaine, that connected the dots between Ghislaine, her wealthy father, Epstein, and several powerful men who have all seemed to escape justice and accountability.
I invited Ward to discuss her twenty-year investigation into the man who is now threatening to undo the Trump presidency and how Epstein, a college dropout with no discernible skills, was able to convince some of the wealthiest people to entrust him with their money.
